Holiday skating rink opens in San Mateo
San Mateo, CA may not have the wintry weather that comes with the Christmas holiday season in many areas, but that does not stop city residents from experiencing the joys of ice skating. San Mateo on Ice, the Bay Area’s’ largest portable outdoor skating rink, opened Saturday, Nov. 9. The rink will be open every day, including holidays, until Jan. 12.
The rink is located in San Mateo’s Central Park at 50 East Fifth Avenue. It offers the ultimate outdoor winter experience, and is surrounded by restaurants, shops, picnic areas and play spots for children. In fact, there is a new attraction this season – bumper cars on ice. Here riders can glide and spin over the ice in their little “cars”, bumping and bouncing off each other. San Mateo’s rink is the only one on the West Coast with bumper cars.
If you have a special occasion coming up, why not host your party at the skating rink? San Mateo on Ice offers a party package that provides a private tented area for two hours, admission and skate rental as well as tables and chairs. Additionally, parties are welcome to bring in outside food and drinks, except for alcohol.
Prices
- General skating price – $17 per person (includes skate rental) with no “in and out” privileges
- VIP skating – $20 per person (includes skate rental and “in and out” privileges for the day of purchase only)
- Active military, firefighters and police – $15 per person with proper identification (no in-and-out privileges)
- Re-entry – $5 re-entry with proper wristband for re-entry the same day as ticket purchase
- Bumper cars – $10 per ride
- Combination ticket – $25 for one bumper car ride and regular skating
