Animals home for the holidays

Home for the holidays in the Bay Area

Three animals that had a very extended stay at the Peninsula animal shelter have now been adopted, according to the Peninsula Humane Society (PHS) and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). So these pets will enjoy having new homes with loving families this Thanksgiving. While animals may not even be aware of holidays, their new adoptive families are. So this will be an especially happy Thanksgiving for these families.

The happy adoptees are:

  • Betty, an 11-year-old pit bull mix that had been in the shelter for 11 months
  • Stormy, a three-year-old cat that had been waiting 592 days for a family
  • Samuel, and adult rabbit that had been in the shelter 564 days

Buffy Martin Tarbox, communications manager for the PHS/SPCA, issued a statement to Patch, a Burlingame/Hillsborough publication.

She said, “We are so delighted Stormy, Betty and Samuel have been adopted after such a long time waiting at our shelter. It’s so heartwarming to know these animals will not only be enjoying the holidays with their new families, but are now in loving homes where they will want for nothing.”

Work of the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA

This organization is a private, non-profit charitable organization committed to promoting animal welfare. The PHS/SPCA animal shelter is an open admission shelter. Not only does it take in “pet animals” that could be rejected at other shelters, but it also cares for orphaned and injured native wildlife in the San Francisco and San Mateo areas as well as the northern half of Santa Clara County.

Additionally, the PHS/SPCA is one of the few shelters in California accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association.

Here are a few of the services the organization provides:

  • Cruelty investigations and reporting
  • Animal rescue and control
  • Animal adoption services
  • Kitten nursery
  • Pet food bank
  • Education programs
  • Dog training programs

The animal shelter is located at 1450 Rollins Rd, Burlingame, CA. For more information about the many services the PHS/SPCA provides, click here.
