Nominations for Sustainability Awards

Recognize someone for respecting the environment

Do you know anyone that works hard to care for the environment in their personal life or business? Nominate him or her for a Sustainability Award from Sustainable San Mateo County. This group has opened up the nomination process for recognition of the most environmentally friendly individuals, businesses and other organizations. These rewards will be presented April 2, 2020.

According to the Hillsborough-Burlingame publication Patch, Sustainable San Mateo presents awards to those who demonstrate an ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Award categories include:

  • Individuals
  • Businesses
  • Educational institutions
  • Government agencies
  • Non-profit organizations

Additionally, Sustainable San Mateo is presenting two special awards related to the building industry.

  • Green Building Award

Sustainable San Mateo is in its 18th year of co-sponsoring this award with the San Mateo chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The recipient of this award will have been involved with a project promoting green, sustainable design and construction.

  • Reach Code Award

This is a first-time award that will go to municipalities that have adopted progressive building codes that emphasize all-electric construction.

A few of Sustainable San Mateo’s honorees last year included long-time SSMC volunteer Bill Schulte, the Citizens Environmental Council of Burlingame, the Half Moon Bay Library and TransForm, a research and advocacy organization that promotes smart growth along with innovative housing and transportation solutions.

More about Sustainable San Mateo

Sustainable San Mateo, a non-profit public benefit corporation, works to drive significant action on issues such as the environment, economy and social equity. The group’s core programs include the following:

  • The Indicators Report

This provides important information about local trends affecting the environment, economy and social circumstances in the county. Governments, businesses, civic groups and other organizations use this report to set goals, measure progress toward achieving them and prioritize the distribution of limited resources.

  • Pathways Report

The compilation of this report is in progress. It will summarize insights regarding sustainability by analyzing data trends over the past 20 years and local professionals’ viewpoints.

  • Awards dinner

This has been an annual event since 1999.

The deadline for nominations is Dec. 8 at midnight. Learn more and make nominations for recipients of the 2020 Sustainability Awards here.
