Sustainability presentation

Burlingame presentation helps with conservation

Californians have endured droughts in the recent past and could endure similar problems with water supplies in the future, depending on rainfall and snow run-off from the mountains. Not only that, there is a constant need to manage energy use throughout the United States. Not to mention, just about everyone wants to avoid spending too much money on these resources.

With this in mind, the Citizens Environmental Council (CEC) of Burlingame is teaming up with the Burlingame Public Library to present a program entitled “New Technology That Can Save Water, Energy and Money” October 17 (Thursday). This presentation runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is free to the public.

The presentation promises to provide vital money-saving information on the most recent innovations in electric cooktops, heaters and vehicles. It will also feature the latest water leak detection devices.

Presenters include the following:

Carlos Moreno – He serves as Community Outreach Associate for Peninsula Clean Energy. He will explain electric vehicle incentive programs with the potential to cut the costs of vehicle operation and maintenance. These programs aim to utilize electric vehicles to cut emissions resulting from gas-powered vehicles.

Danielle McPherson -She is the Water Resource Specialist for the WaterNow Alliance. McPherson will demonstrate the water-saving capabilities of leak detection devices that can help homeowners to conserve water and avoid excessive water bills.

Mike Rebholtz – This general manager of Alternative HVAC Solutions will speak about all-electric heating systems that are more energy-efficient and run cleaner than standard natural gas-powered systems.

Patti Sexton – In her capacity as Induction Cooktop Manager for Acterra, she will show attendees the “hot” new electric cooktops that are considered cleaner, faster, safer and more efficient than older electric or gas burners.

The CEC states its mission as “[championing] a more environmentally and economically sustainable community.”  The organization also provides educational resources for Burlingame residents, institutions and businesses.

The Burlingame Library is located at 480 Primrose Road.
